9 Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Old AC System.

Is your air conditioner operating abnormally? It may be a warning, indicating that it is time to replace it. There are many signs that the air conditioner is in its final stage, and it is time to replace it. The average life of an AC unit is 10-15 years. Of course, your old air conditioner needs to be kept in proper condition to work effectively for that long.

Signs to Replace your AC system

  1. Weird sounds
Does your air conditioning system make a lot of noise? Or do you hear unusual sounds? A damaged air conditioner usually makes unusual noises, which indicates that you need to replace your AC.

  2. Water leaks
Do you see Water around the outdoor unit? Except for a small amount of condensate, no water should leak from the AC unit. You have to replace your AC depending on the severity of the leak near the unit.

  3. Unpleasant smells
Unpleasant and foul smells may also mean that it is time to replace the aging air conditioner. Ideally, the air from the air conditioner should have a clean, neutral odor.

  4. Needs frequent and expensive AC repair
If you need to repair your AC unit more than twice a year, it may be time to replace it. If your AC requires a repair that costs over half the total amount of a new unit, your first option may be to go ahead and replace it.

  5. Electricity bills are rising
An increase in electricity bills indicates that your air conditioner is not working efficiently. The damaged device consumes more power than it should which your home electricity bills may show.

  6. Low airflow
First, check your filters to make they are not clogged. If the filters appear fine and still airflow is short, you can have a hassle that is not always without difficulty repaired. System replacement might be on the horizon.

  7. The air is not cool
Air coming out of the ventilation is warm rather than cold. It is a sign of a severe problem with the air conditioner.

  8. AC requires R-22 refrigerant
AC units usually require a gas called a refrigerant to cool the air in the home. All air conditioning systems manufactured before January 2010 use the R22 refrigerant called Feron. This refrigerant contains ozone-depleting substances that are harmful to the environment.
The Environmental Protection Agency recommends that newer air-conditioning models use eco-friendly refrigerants. Check the nameplate of the air conditioner to see if it still uses R22. If so, now is the time to buy an air conditioner.

  9. Poor air quality:
If you notice a strange smell, especially a musty smell, it means that mold accumulates in your unit, which is very harmful to your respiratory tract. If you see more dust on the surface or wind in the house, this is also abnormal. It may be necessary to replace the AC unit.
